Open house set Saturday for new store manager

McKenzie Schultz
Prairie Chic Handcrafts and Antique is hosting an open house this weekend to welcome their new store manager.
Area residents can meet McKenzie Schultz and wish outgoing manager Stephanie Gilbert farewell from 11 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the store, located at 9 S. Broadway St., Herington.
Gilbert resigned from her position in April to relocate back home to Idaho to live closer to her family there.
"I hope to see many residents from from all over the Tri-County area who I met during my newspaper experience before I leave the region," she said about her departure. "I'm confident that McKenzie (Schultz) can use her imagination and access to Pinterest to really take the store to the next level."
Schultz has experience in a consignment store in Georgia, where she worked as a leader among a group of volunteers.
Stephanie Gilbert
"She had a great rapport with consignors in the Georgia store and she has already had several experiences working with our consignors here in the local area," Gilbert said about Schultz. "She has already taken initiative working inside the store for a bit this weekend and will be a wonderful asset to the business."
Denise Homer, store co-owner, concurred.
"McKenzie (Schultz) has a great artistic flair and a passion to see potential in vintage items our consignors bring in to sell at Prairie Chic," she said. "We are excited to see how she offers classes to encourage area residents how they can also upgrade worn furniture items to sell in our store."
The regular store hours at Prairie Chic are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information about the open house or the store in general, call the store at 785-258-8004, or contact the store manager at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com or (785) 571-3955.

Area wedding includes pieces from Prairie Chic store

TODAY is the BIG day! Local photographer, Chardy Bayes, who owns Studio 81 Photography, is getting married to Tony Magnett today. Chardy has displayed her vintage pinup photos in the store for the holiday season. Chardy has also been heavily involved with the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce's Think Local First program to encourage buying items available in the local area from local businesses.
Featured as her centerpiece of her wedding decor is a gazebo setting she purchased at Prairie Chic to go along with her outdoor, country themed wedding! Best wishes to her and Tony Magnett today as they begin their life together. (Photos courtesy of Rose Bayes)

Customers share handcrafted pieces made from items purchased here

Sometimes our customers send us pictures of their creations after they have renewed a piece they bought from our store. Here are some photos of those upgrades that we have received so far!
A Herington woman bought the yellow dress on the left for a costume for her granddaughter to dress up like Belle Starr, the outlaw that ran with Jesse James. Here is the outcome of the full costume view!
Here is a well worn black and green dresser that a Fort Riley woman bought from our store.
She turned that into this dresser for her daughter.
Here is another rough dresser that a Council Grove woman bought.
It needed some TLC and got turned into this creation!
Sometimes, our customers will find a unique use for something they buy here, such as this wooden drawer separator box used to display nail polish colors.
Do you have before and after pictures of something you have purchased from our store? If so, email them to Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com.
