Throttle Jockeys Car Show now getting set up, Prairie Chic open until 6 p.m.

The Throttle Jockeys Car Club began setting up their annual car show downtown earlier this morning. The first show in 2012 started out as the city's 125th birthday celebration, held out at the Herington Regional Airport. In 2013, the Throttle Jockeys continued the event, still holding it at our local airport. Today, the car show aspect of the event is downtown on Broadway Street, even right in front of our store! How fitting that we offer vintage and antique items to area shoppers, because this year's car show is only open to 1979 and older vehicles. It's really neat how that works out, isn't it?
Here's the view of the 10 block of South Broadway, with the announcer stand shown on the right and our storefront shown on the left. We'll be easy to find, at 9 S. Broadway St., just north of the car show registration booth at Day Street and Broadway Street.
Farther down, the vendors are set up outside the chamber office, at 106 N. Broadway. This is the view looking south earlier this morning.
The Tri-County Area Chamber of Commerce is serving coffee and serving as the vendor liaison for the Throttle Jockeys. Related to that, Prairie Chic Handcrafts & Antiques is now a member of our local chamber!

Come on down to the third annual Herington car show, this year being held in our downtown area. Awards will be announced around noon, and then drag races will be held out at the airport from 1-5 p.m. Our store will be open until 6 p.m., so after the classic cars have headed to the airport, residents are most welcome to come on in to the downtown area and do some shopping in our new store!

If you have any questions, feel free to call the store at 785-258-8004 or Stephanie's cell phone at 785-571-3955.

Grand opening: Quote of the Day

A little boy came into the store with his grandmother this afternoon. She told him that there are no toys in our store, and not to touch anything. He said it's OK for him to touch toys, to which she responded that if he thinks he sees a toy, he'd better ask for permission before he touches it. When the little boy saw the fencing in progress between the storage units and the open floor space, the little boy said it looks like there should be animals on the other side. (The wall is made up of cattle fence.) Oh, the things you hear out of the mouths of babes!

Now Open: See some of the items we have for sale!

We now have furniture and booth items in our store! Here are some vintage furniture pieces we have on our sales floor.

Here is a cabinet that we have for sale, priced at $28.50.

Here's a booth, still in progress, that is being rented by a former antique store owner from Herington!

Here's a booth set up to sell some items (except the quilt in the front) and also advertise a local business.

Here's a booth still in progress, but we're making headway on our rented booth spaces!

Any handmade crafters who would like to become a vendor and area residents who would like to sell antique or quality used furniture items in the store can stop in at 9 S. Broadway St., Herington, or contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, atPrairieChicKansas@gmail.com.

First vendor sets up shop, more booth spaces coming along!

We have our first booth already set up and ready for our grand opening on Friday! We had several people come in and look at both space sizes to get an idea of the size they may need for their use.

First booth set up by a Hope woman
Our booth spaces are now coming along, after some late evening work last night. The first space, which is a 6' space is already reserved. You can see the 2' end cap also on the very right end of the wall.

As you can see, each aisle has one 6' space, then four 4' spaces, followed by an 8' space on the end. The wall is 7' tall, with a 4' divider in between the smaller booths. An electrical outlet is included in each space, for lighting. However, we do require our vendors to use energy efficient bulbs. (Read more on the Tab above.)

It may not look pretty, but here is the first aisle of our booth spaces, showing the booths on both sides. We also offer wall space (shown in the back) for items that don't need much depth. Those spaces are 12" deep, while the booth spaces shown in the foreground are 30" deep. We also offer back wall space, which is 4' in depth, and $15 per square foot, in 4' or 6' or larger sizes.
We have two full walls put up, but we will eventually have six in place. Each booth space will have four shelves available for vendors to use, and we also have pegboard hangers for $.25 each. We have many lengths and sizes of hooks. The space comes open for you to design and create however you would like to arrange your own items.

The store first opens for business on Friday at 10 a.m. We are open Saturday and also Sunday, due to the Crossroads Trading Post coming to town. Our regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

In closing, thank you so much for our 2,800 page views as of today! We appreciate your readership and look forward to sharing more about the store as we begin our business hours on Friday.

Any handmade crafters who would like to become a vendor and area residents who would like to sell antique or quality used furniture items in the store can stop in at 9 S. Broadway St., Herington, or contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com.

The walls start to go up!

Our booth spaces were started to be constructed inside our store today. Here is the first wall going up, with one 6', four 4' and one 8' booth space shown from left to right. The 4' tall separations will be covered in pegboard, also.

Wall space is shown in the back and to the left of the booth spaces, which is available at $15 per square foot, at whatever length you want to rent!

The glass cases now have their shelves placed inside them. The front of the store is starting to come together and staff will continue to work to get the computer and our software ready for our grand opening.
Mark Homer and David Stroda continued working into the evening to put together several more booth spaces, also in preparation for the store's grand opening. Each side will have the same configuration of one 6', then four 4' and one 8' booth space, with separators.

On Wednesday, we'll continue to prepare our store for you to see our grand opening on Friday! You can stop in and see us, and start putting things in a booth space, as they get pieced together.

As always, any handmade crafters who would like to become a vendor and area residents who would like to sell antique or quality used furniture items in the store can contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com or 785-512-0736.

The countdown continues: Just one week to our grand opening!

This is it! There's only one more week until we will open to public at 10 a.m. for area residents and our visitors to see what we have to offer in the store! Several area handcraft creators, including a local woman from Hope; several antique dealers, including a former Herington downtown antique store owner, and several quality furniture consignment dealers, including one who sees many people at her yard sales, are planning to have their items in our store. We will also have art on display by the Herington High School art class, courtesy of Mrs. Beth DeMont for the weekend, so don't forget to stop by and look at the up-and-coming artists we have in our local area!

Mark and Denise Homer will be working inside the store on Monday to get things finalized and prepared for vendors to place their items. Stephanie Gilbert will be have the store open on Wednesday and Thursday to let vendors get their items ready for our grand opening on Friday, April 25!

Our local Throttle Jockeys Car Club is having a car show in downtown Herington on the morning of Saturday, April 26, starting at 8 a.m. for registration. The work doesn't finish even after that event because we'll also be open on Sunday, April 27. The Crossroads Trading Post will hold their monthly flea market in town at the Herington Community Building, and we'll be open every Sunday that flea market is in town.

Any handmade crafters who would like to become a vendor and area residents who would like to sell antique or quality used furniture items in the store can contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.comor you can visit the More about the Prairie Chic store Tab above.

Work continues inside, outside the Prairie Chic store!

We have great news! Our contractors and our staff have been making great progress on work both inside and outside of our store.
Our flooring work is now nearly done to allow other work on wall pieces and booth spaces to continue.

The outside wooden frame work has been set, and the lighting has been installed by Jim Jones, of Jones Electric, and the sign will be in place very soon.

We'll be advertising in the newspaper to recruit furniture consignment pieces in the store. If you're interested in more about that option, contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com.

As always, more to come!

Special event rental rates available, including car show

Are you interested in sharing some items inside the Prairie Chic business, but apprehensive about a monthly commitment? We are offering SPECIAL EVENT rental rates of $2 per square foot prior to the show or $3 per square foot on the day of the show.

Special events are planned for the Throttle Jockeys Car Show, April 25-27; Herington Vintage Days, Aug. 21-24; and the Herington Holiday Festival on Dec. 6. You bring your own table and set up your own items. Your space is measured on the square or rectangular size, so, sorry, there's no discount for round tables (no pi x r{squared} math computations, that is!). You will tend your own sales, so no credit cards nor collection will be taken by our staff.

To sign up for a special event show, or for more information, contact Stephanie Gilbert, store manager, at PrairieChicKansas@gmail.com.
